What does it mean to be King Winter?

Passion

King Winter is someone (any gender) who is passionate about winter, snow sports, and Mt Hood. They are the embodiment of passion for the pow.

Service

King Winter is not only passionate about winter and snow sports, but also someone who gives back to the community through volunteering or support for our mountain community.

Community

King Winter is someone who encourages growth of the mountain community. This person encourages others to get involved and inspires others to develop their own passion for the pow.

All hail, King (Queen) Ulla!

Ulla is a lifetime Govy Girl. She has raced on Mt. Hood and beyond since1971. Besides being an avid skier, she enjoys hiking. She is an active member of all the communities she is part of. She helped with the Government Camp revitalization project and was one of the first proprietors to participate. She volunteers and actively participates in leadership roles in both civic and social organizations - GC Sanitary District, GC Road District, MHSP, MHCCM, PACRAT, Skiyente, NWSCC.

Passion

Ulla starting racing in 1971 with Mighty Mites, then Cascade Ski Club, then Sandy High School, where, as a senior, she became Oregon State Girls' combined Slalom/GS Champion. She went to college on a ski scholarship and raced for the College of Idaho. She joined PACRAT in 2018 and is its current President. She is a Skiyente member and winner of the Skiyente Cup.

Service

Ulla is a life-long Government Camp resident. She volunteered with Mt. Hood Ski Patrol for 16 years, rising through the ranks from patroller to Area Patrol Chief and Training Director. She actively volunteers on the Government Camp Road District board and on the Mt. Hood Cultural Center & Museum Board. She has participated in several SOLVE and Skiyente area clean-up projects. She has worked for the Government Camp Sanitary District since 2000.

Community

As the proprietor of Palmer House, which her family started in 1950, she consciously leases her rooms at below market-rate to community service workers to help provide adequate housing for them.

Being a "King" is part of Ulla's heritage - he dad, Lynn Pearson was King Winter 1981. She is a well respected member of her local community and is kind, generous, friendly and supportive of all who come in contact with her.
