Master's Race

Mt. Hood Masters Mania 2012...A HUGE Success!
The combined efforts of Skiyente Ski Clubs and Schnee Vogeli lead
to the huge success of the only PNSA/USSA Masters Ski Race on Mt. Hood! The efforts of the two Clubs, the Committee, the Supporting Sponsors and all the Volunteers came together on March 3 and
March 4 for one of the best Master's races in the circuit. Skiyente members volunteered hours of standing in the rain on Saturday while Gatekeeping for the Schnee Vogeli Turkey Slalom and then again
on Sunday for the Skiyente4 Memorial Cup Giant Slalom. EXCEPT on Sunday, we enjoyed a perfect Bluebird Day on the Giant Slalom course! Not only did Skiyente members help orchestrate and
roganize the events of the weekend, several Skiyente members actually donned
their race suits and raced with the Master's! Many of the master's ski racers,
who race the circuit thoughout the winter months, say that the Skiyente
memroial Cup Giant Slalom is the BEST course they race all season! They say
that the race always is well organized, on time and exciting!
A big "Thank You" to our supporting sponsors!
Mt. Hood Adult Race Club, ARC International, Blue Lake Shipping, Tubby's Deli/Howard's BBQ and Catering, and the individual support of club members: Tracy Chosa, Dinae Hicks, Jeannie Hummel and our Skiyente Founder Maryanne Hill.
Masters Mania 2012 races drew record numbers, we had 33 racers in the Schnee Vogeli Turkey Slalom and an OUTSTANDING 53 racers in the Skiyente Memorial Cup Giant Slalom! The racers came from all over Oregon and Washington, and ranged in age from 18 to 80 years old! An amazing group of dedicated ski racers!

This year the Skiyente Cup which goes to the fastest woman of the day participating in the Turkey Slalom was won by our own fast lady Jeannie Hummel! Congrats to Jeannie and all of the ladies who raced and finished, it was a tough course!
Memorial Cup Race
Sunday is the Memorial Cup Race this year Skiyente honored three friends of the mountain who passed away in the last year. They were Hank Lewis, Jeannie Jett-Clare and Don Brunette. We invited family members to fore run the Memorial Cup Race and to participate in the awards ceremony.

In rememberance of Charlie several members of the Sperrs family skied the race course in 2011.

Thank you Colleen for all of your passion and dedication for this race. Colleen Walter was very instrumental in putting on this long time race, the race was facing financial difficulties early on but that didn't stop Colleen she found sponsors to help with the budget and the got it done. Thanks for all of your hard work!
As Colleen says, "It takes a village to put on this race!" She would like to thank Skiyente, Schnee Vogeli, our Volunteers and our Supporting Sponsors! Add an amazing effort from an amazing ski club to bring it all together! The history of these ski races on Mt. Hood starts way back in 1959, and will hopefully be supported well into the future!
